We had a very special visitor to our school recently as part of our Pet Days.

Ruby is a six month old baby rabbit. She likes to eat lettuce, sweet grass and the tops of carrots!

She sleeps in a mini wooden house which was specially made for her by my dad.

Her bed is made of cosy rabbit bedding which we buy in the shop.

Every time, I try to put Ruby to bed, she stands on her back legs and rubs noses with our dog-Sandy!

Ruby’s owner was unable to look after her so we rescued her from a Veterinary Practice in Tralee.

One of Ruby’s ears is always hanging down and she sheds once every three months.

I love Ruby!

Recently, we had 6 very special visitors to our school-2 guinea pigs called Brownie and Hairy and their 3 week old babies called Chester, Rodney, Muffin, and Floppy.

I got Brownie and Hairy as a surprise at Christmas when they were 3 weeks old. We thought they were both girls but when mom realised that Brownie was getting fat, we discovered that she was having babies! A guinea pig has to carry her babies for 72 days.

The babies were born with lots of hair and their eyes open. Guinea pigs are mammals and so Chester, Rodney, Muffin and Floppy are fed by Brownie. It was very hard in the beginning to resist picking up the babies. If a mother Guinea pig smells a human scent from them, she may reject them and kill them.

The guinea pigs are now 4 months old and like to graze on grass all day-just like cows! I love my guinea pigs.

We saw him for sale on Done Deal and we travelled to Cork to get him.

He is really crazy. He always takes my mom’s slippers and chews them! Mom gets cross.

He likes to be with people all the time. He gets lonely and starts crying-especially at night.

His favourite food is Royal Canine!

Elmo sleeps in our dining room behind the chair- in his special bed.

He is nearly house trained-Kate and I have to clean up after Elmo!

He is trained to walk on a lead and loves to go for walks but hates his harness.

Recently, we had 2 very special visitors to our school-2 kid goats called Molly and Floppy. They are Buddy’s daughters who are proudly owned by us. Molly and Floppy are 3 weeks old. Floppy still feeds from her mom but Molly is bottle fed. Molly’s mom-Giddy has rejected her and that is why she is fed from a bottle.

Molly and Giddy take lots of care . They have to be fed every morning and evening (nuts, grass and hay). Every few weeks, they need to be dosed also. Snowy’s milk is used for tea and baking. All of our family use goats milk. It is very good for people with asthma and eczema.

Buddy is our pet goat. Our cousin Brogan found him on the side of road.

He is a puck goat. He is really friendly. When you call his name he will run up to you and walk beside you so you don’t need a lead.Sometimes he breaks out.

Buddy is 8 months old. He is black in colour with white hooves. Buddy likes being outside loves eating grass, briars and nuts.

Buddy’s best friends are Snowy and Giddy –our other goats.

We love Buddy because when you go the gate of the field, he will come running up to you. He loves when we rub him in between his horns. But we have to be careful just in case he pucks us.
